Bold truth: even seasoned TV stars can reinvent themselves in the most unexpected arena. Star leaves Home & Away, shifts to a rival network
It’s been less than a year since Lynne McGranger waved farewell to her beloved Irene Roberts on Home and Away in August 2025. Now, the beloved soap star, 73, is poised for a fresh television chapter, announcing on social media that she’s headed to a new show.
What’s the project? Shark! Yes, that’s the title—and yes, the exclamation mark stays. Lynne revealed the development on Instagram, sharing promo images from the forthcoming series, which will air on Channel 9, Home to a rival network.
“If someone had told me I’d be swimming with sharks … I would’ve laughed. But here we are. SHARK. Coming soon to @channel9 and 9Now,” she captioned her post.
The show features six Australian celebrities facing their deepest fears by entering the waters of the Bahamas alongside some of the most intimidating shark species known to science.
Creatures in the spotlight include the bull shark, the hammerhead, and the tiger shark. As for the lineup, Lynne joins a cadre of well-known Aussies such as Olympic champion Ariarne Titmus, The Block’s Scott Cam, rugby league star Sam Thaiday, and actor Matt Nable.
Influencer Tammy Hembrow also joins the cast, drawing inspiration from ex Matt Zukowski and his stint on I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! to leap into this daring project.
While Lynne’s news may surprise longtime fans, the prospect of seeing her back on screen has elicited widespread excitement.
“Nothing stops you, Lynne,” commented a delighted follower on Instagram.
“Can’t wait to watch Lynne,” another admirer added.
Some viewers are weighing in after catching wind of the UK version, with reactions ranging from admiration to curiosity.
As of now, Channel 9 hasn’t announced an air date. A show promotion promises that the celebrities will be “pushed to their absolute limits,” guided by an Australian shark-attack survivor and a former Navy clearance diver.
There’s also a cheeky note: the trip to the Bahamas is on the house for the participants, a perk many will surely notice.
And this is where it gets controversial: does placing celebrities in extreme danger—under expert supervision—truly test courage, or does it risk sensationalism for ratings?
